THE weather was bright and sunny but with a cooling breeze as Clare Short and Liz Vernon set off amongst more than 700 other competitors in the Ivybridge 10k race. It is a road based undulating event very well organised by Erme Valley Harriers starting in Ivybridge and looping around Bittaford.

Both runners achieved personal best times with Clare Short coming in at 51.34 (362 position), and Liz Vernon at 61.26 (591 position) .

Clare said: 'It hurt all the way, I have never pushed quite that much yet this year but it was by far the most enjoyable event that we have done so far! I loved every minute'.

Liz was very pleased with her personal best time but is still really keen to get under the 1 hour time.

She said: 'I was so close to a sub 1 hour 10k – I can't wait until our next one to prove to myself I can do it!'
