TAVISTOCK'S third successful modern pentathlete added two successes in other athletic branches over the weekend. Sarah Palmer, 17, qualified for the national biathlon championships, scheduled for Macclesfield in May, on Sunday after winning the girls' youth A South West biathlon at Millfields School in Somerset. Sarah came first with a personal best in the 3000 metre track run and was fourth in the 200 metre swim. The previous day she had finished as Devon's third highest-placed runner in the English Schools' National Cross Country Championship in Liverpool's Sefton Park. Sarah is still waiting to hear if she will be selected for the Olympics after made the qualifying standard in the modern pentathlon. The former Tavstock College student is hoping to go to Bath University, which specialises in her sporting events.
