Duchy Premier St Mawgan 3 Lamerton 3 ON a blustery day but with a nice pitch, these bottom-end of the table teams produced a match of high entertainment and controversy. Lamerton raced to a 2-0 lead and both were of quality. Dan Healy chased down the full back to win a free kick, which he took quickly, teeing up Kev Swift, who hit a superb shot from 25 yards into the top corner. The second goal was a team effort with Dan Healy, Steve Gibbings and James Healy cuttiing through the St Mawgan centre and passed to Swift on the edge of the box; he cleverly fed the onrushing Steve Roast down the right, who impressively smashed his effort in off the angle. The quality of finishing was to be matched by the home side as St Mawgan got back into the game. The full back scored a left foot screamer from all of 35 yards and 15 minutes after half time Mawgan's striker also finished clinically past Pete Daniel. The game then took a harsh and unforgiving turn as the referee turned down two blatant penalty appeals. The home defence's tactics could not go unpunished however, when with 15 minutes left, Swift fed Dave Byworths timely burst into the box and he was hauled down in front of goal. Swift stepped up and made it 3-2 to Lamerton. It was a deserved lead as Lamerton had a number of good chances in the second period. The referee awarded St Mawgan a penalty in stoppage time. Simon Breyley challenged his man and while he was on the ground, the striker appeared to fall over him. The spot-kick was gladly tucked away, which agonisingly sped off keeper Daniel's hands as the final whistle blew. A disappointed Lamerton look forward to this fixture again this Saturday, 2.30pm.
