OKEHAMPTON Friendly Circle heard about a visit to Buckingham Palace this month. The group?s meeting for this month was held on Tuesday August 7 in the Charter Hall, where the Reverend Sheila Scarr spoke about an award ceremony at the palace, at which her sister had been presented with an award for her work with the homelessness charity Shelter. The Friendly Circle was interested to hear all about the security at the palace, the beautiful reception rooms where the presentation took place, the music played by the Welsh guards, and the Queen?s appearance ? but were most entertained by Sheila?s account of a visit to a royal loo. The meeting was rounded off with refreshments and a draw. Later this month, the group is visiting Paignton ? transport will leave Okehampton on Tuesday August 28 at 9.00 am from West Street. At the group?s next meeting, in September, there will be a talk about the Devon Air Ambulance.
