TO CELEBRATE the opening of a new footpath in South Zeal, children will walk to school along the new path, following the official opening ceremony at 8.40am on Wednesday, May 26.
Schoolchildren, parents and teachers will join parishioners for the opening of the path, which runs across the Recreation Ground from the car park to the village.
Following the opening ceremony to be attended by representatives from Devon County Council and the parish council, the children will walk to school, arriving in plenty of time for their first lessons.
Teachers will also be walking the children back to the car park at the end of the school day at 3.30pm.
It is hoped that parents will use the route daily, not just on the organised ?Walk to School? days. As well as improving the health and safety of children walking to and from school, it is also hoped the pathway will reduce traffic congestion in the village.
