HIGH accolades were heaped on Tavistock in a national newspaper last weekend. The town was one of just four picked by the Sunday Times as being ?a quintessentially British town at the heart of the UK food revolution?. The other three were Port of Menteith in Scotland, Windermere in the Lake District and Ludlow in Shropshire. Singled out in the article were Tavistock?s pannier market, the farmers? market, Country Cheeses and Creber?s. Praise was also heaped on The Horn of Plenty at Gulworthy, the Dartmoor Inn at Lydford. Gidleigh Park at Chagford and Endsleigh Gardens at Milton Abbot. Cllr Jenny Metcalf, mayor of Tavistock, said she was ?absolutely thrilled? the town had been singled out by the Sunday Times. ?I think it?s absolutely brilliant ? I just can?t get over it, I think it?s marvellous, I really do ? congratulations and well done to everyone who was mentioned in the article,? said Cllr Metcalf. ?It?s wonderful publicity for Tavistock ? and it hasn?t cost us a brass farthing!?
