AN African grey parrot worth £500 has been stolen from her home in Lumburn, near Tavistock. Polly the parrot (below) went missing on Tuesday, July 10 from her owners? bungalow. Polly?s owners, Bruce and Christine Knowltan, were enjoying a five-day holiday in Canada to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. On returning home, Christine said the holiday was ?ruined? by the news that Polly had been stolen from their home. ?We were like zombies after we heard about Polly and from that day we wanted to come home. We couldn?t even celebrate our anniversary. ?We have had her for more than 20 years and she is just like a child to us. We are so traumatised. She is a dearly loved part of the family. ?We would recognise her straight away as she picks out the feathers on her tail when she is stressed and she has a red stumpy tail.? The couple?s son, Paul, 33, who lives in Wales, was looking after the bungalow while his parents were away. He had caught a bus into Tavistock in the morning, but when he returned at around 1pm, he found the front door open and realised Polly had been stolen. Several items were also taken from the house, a mobile phone, jewellery and Mr Knowltan?s return train tickets to Wales. It is believed the thief got into the property through an open window.
