EAGER musicians have only three weeks to send in their 'demos' for the chance to perform at this summer's big live music event in Tavistock. Parklife is being staged for the third time at Tavistock College on Sunday, July 6 and will see a whole host of activities available to participate in around the school grounds. But the search is now on for the organisers to find talented musical acts for the community event, which attracts an audience of young adults, teenagers and family groups from all over West Devon and East Cornwall. Previous performers have included Yelverton folk singer Seth Lakeman, Relentless and Dad Dancing and there has also been involvement from Plymouth Sound FM, Jelly Jazz and various local and national performance groups. The organisers are looking for musicians of any age and from any musical discipline to complete this year's line-up. Eva Pearson, Parklife's music co-ordinator, said applicants must be able to perform to a high standard for between 20 to 45 minutes, have 'excellent' stage presence and an ability to 'wow' a crowd of 2,000 plus people. Eva said: 'If you have a sound we want to hear it. 'Last year 18 bands took part — this year we are hoping for 15 to 18 acts. The amount of talent around here is phenomenal. 'Parklife is seen as a one day music festival. If you like music, there will be something for you. 'If you don't like what's on then you can just come back in 30 minutes. It is becoming quite a big community event, I already have a lot of people coming forward and wanting to get involved. 'This year we are thinking bigger, better, more fun, more activities and top quality bands. But there are a few things in the pipeline which we want to keep under our hats.' To enter, each artist and group must send in a demo CD, containing at least three tracks, complete with name, a brief biography and contact details to E Pearson, Tavistock College, Crowndale Road, Tavistock. Or if a website with songs is available, email details to [email protected]">[email protected] The selection process will take place during the week of March 24, so all entries must be in by 6pm on Friday, March 21. Any information received after this date will not be included in the selection process.
