TAVISTOCK Goose Fair takes place next Wednesday ? and as parking will be extremely limited, the town council is urging people to take advantage of park and ride schemes. No waiting restrictions will be in operation using police cones and there will be a high police presence within the town on fair day, October 12. In addition, signposted amended traffic routes will be in operation to help ease vehicle flow through Tavistock. Tavistock and Plymouth Tamar Lions Clubs will be operating park and ride schemes from Yelverton Aerodrome, Lumburn Rise on the Callington Road and Harford Bridge Holiday Park, near Peter Tavy. The car parks will be identified by blue RAC signs. Target Travel will be co-ordinating the bus services and will run frequent shuttle services to strategic points in the town centre from the park and ride car parks. The service will run between 9am and 10.30pm, depending on demand. A flat rate £5 fee will cover the return bus journey for all occupants of a car using the Lumburn Rise and Harford Bridge car parks. Charges for the Yelverton park and ride will be £2 per adult, 50p per child under 16 years of age. Parking will be available at Tavistock AFC?s Langsford Park ground in Crowndale Road. And to set you up for the day, breakfast is on offer at the foorball club?s base, the Red & Black Club. From midnight on Saturday October 8, West Devon Borough Council will close its Bedford and Wharf car parks for a week for fairground rides. On fair day itself ? October 12 ? the council?s Russell Street, Chapel Street and Riverside car parks will also be closed. Abbey car park will be available for blue badge holders only, and charges will apply. Tavistock bus station will be closed and given over to fairground rides. All car parks except the Bedford and the Wharf will reopen as normal on Thursday October 13. Roger Howard, town clerk, said: ?Be wise, do not attempt to drive into Tavistock on Goose Fair day. Vehicles parked causing an obstruction will also be deemed to be illegally parked and heavy fines, plus a storage fee, will be incurred for the recovery from the police compound.?
