IN the second round of the National Speedo League held at Bournemouth, Kelly College swimmers produced some outstanding performances to secure a very close and exciting second place finish to Ferndown Swimming Club who are renowned for their senior International and Olympic successes. Out of the 50 events on the race programme, Kelly swimmers won 16 golds, 11 silvers and 8 bronze medals totaling 35 top 3 places. Notable performances came from Kelly?s Jack Cockerton, 17, who was back to his best form winning both the Men?s open 200m Individual Medley and the 100m Breaststroke. Danny Brown swimming in the Boys13/u 100m Breaststroke also stormed to victory by winning by a clear 10 metres with a fast time of 1.11.4. As it was a night for Breaststroke performances Holly Yeo, 15, was not to be out done by the boys and swam a huge personal best in the girls 15/u 100m Breaststroke where she led from the front to win in a very impressive time of 1.14.64. Kathryn Stacey, 11, had a busy night swimming in both the 11/u and also the older 13/u age group to help cover both categories. Kathryn swam in seven different events including relays and still managed to win the 11/u 50m Freestyle. Matthew Henry, 15, continued his quest to break the minute barrier in the 100m Backstroke and on this occasion was just short of the mark. But he secured a win and gained six valuable points, which helped the Kelly team to qualify for the final of the Speedo League to be held at Millfield on December 10. Other individual winners included: Luke Wakefield Men?s Open 100m Fly and 100m Freestyle, Amanda Sanderson, Women?s Open 100m Backstroke, Laura Sprague 13/u 100m Fly, Ben Clark 15/u 100m Freestyle, Kathryn Stacey 11/u 50m Freestyle, Team winners included: Boys 13/u 4x50 Medley Relay (Cameron Carpenter Warren, Daniel Brown, Lawrence Oxborough, Mark Brend), Boys 15/u 4x50 Freestyle Relay (Matthew Henry, Joshua Lake, Philip Channon, Ben Clark), Mens Open 4x50 Medley Relay (Matthew Henry, Jack Cockerton, Luke Wakefield, Tom Howe), Boys 15/u 4x50 Medley Relay (Philip Channon, Jonathan Sprague, Matthew Henry, Benjamin Clarke). Men?s Open 6x50 Medley Relay ( Jack Cockerton, Philip Channon, Benjamin Clark, Matthew Henry, Thomas Howe, Luke Wakefield).
