THE final two days of competition at the Devon championships brought more success to Okehampton Otters Swimming Club members.
Rebecca Rowe and Johanna Cade swam in the 50 and 100m backstroke events. Rebecca (12 years) swam to a new personal best time by erasing 1.5 seconds from her 50m time to gain an age group record and a finishing place of 12th.
The 100m swim was also a pb and club record swim, but this time Rebecca smashed more than three seconds from her time to be placed in a creditable ninth place .
Jo Cade (15 years) also made a new pb and club record in the 50m back. Here she swam to fifth place. Her strongest distance of the 100m saw Jo swim to a different level than previously. The heats produced a pb swim to enable her to achieve a berth in the final.
In the final Jo again bettered her heat time by a margin of close to three seconds to finish in sixth place in a club record.
The final day of competition on Sunday saw Otters' girls captain Holly Dennis enter a Devon championship event for the first time. Although not feeling well she swam a new pb time in the 15 years 50m breast to finish in 12th place.
Also swimming this event for the first time at county level was Jenny Rice. Her 50m breast swim gave her a placing of seventh with the 100m breast eighth place, both swims in pb and club record times.
Lastly, the 4x25 m individual medley saw Rebecca, Vicky Medlyn and Jenny all swim to pb times and for Jenny a new senior age group record with placings of 12th, 15th and 4th respectfully.
Coach Nigel West said: ' The club has had 16 top ten finishes from all events with six of those being in the top six.
They all swam to high standards and many of the swims resulted in smashing personal best times by a good margin.'
This Friday sees the club go on a day trip to train at Millfields 50m pool then on to Bath for the remainder of the day.
There are still seats available. To join the club contact Nigel on 01837 53431.
