A YEAR 6 pupil has created a charity to support other children with their educational needs.

Oskar Dimitropoulos, 11 — with help from his mum Gosia — set up ‘Open Your Wings’ and is busy fundraising to help make a difference to primary school children and their learning.

As a pupil at Horrabridge Primary and Nursery School, Oskar found mathematics very stressful and struggled with the subject — but thanks to extra private tuition Oskar was able to flourish.

He said: ‘I feel so grateful that mum and dad do everything to fulfil my educational needs. I know that it costs a lot, but after a year with my private tutor I have so much confidence in what I do at school.

‘I feel so sorry for all those children whose parents can not afford to do it.’

And from this realisation, Oskar decided that together with the help of Gosia, he will create Open Your Wings and support local schools and children.

His ambition is to support as many children as possible, but will start with his current school in Horrabridge.

Oskar will be fundraising over the summer holiday in order to provide support for someone in the new school year. He will also be making items that he will sell on his shop on Facebook (coming soon).

Gosia told the Times that she was very proud of Oskar: ‘The tuition really gave him a boost and he said it was his wish that more children were able to have extra support. He really wants to support children in order to give them a chance to do something that they would love to do.

‘He wants other children to be stronger at the end of primary school and go to college, wherever they have chosen, with a stronger mind and to be stronger in themselves.

‘We believe that every child is special and deserves the best.

‘Why not help them to become stronger and more confident so they will be able to open their wings and fly up high.

‘Children are our future — we will be so grateful if you could support Open Your Wings.’

Horrabridge Primary and Nursery School headteacher John Clarke added: ‘Oskar has a wonderfully thoughtful nature and his concern for others potentially less fortunate than himself at this time is further testament to this.’

A JustGiving page has been set up where people can donate to Oskar’s charity. It has already raised £125.

Gosia expressed thanks to everyone who had donated so far.
