Plympton Thirds v Whitchurch Seconds WHITCHURCH made the short trip to play Plympton Thirds at Gunnislake. Whitchurch lost the toss and were invited to bat. They soon lost Hodge in a run-out mix-up and were struggling at 45 for 4, with only Heatley mastering the youthful swing bowling. Hefford did the early damage, taking 3 for 27. Heatley and Freedman saw off the earlier problems, but when Heatley fell four short of a deserved half-century, the writing appeared to be on the wall. However, with plenty of overs to go Tamblin and Jackson steadied the ship. They added 57 for the seventh wicket, before Tamblin (19) was out trying for big runs near the end. Jackson completed a well made 50 shortly after before perishing to Howoorth. Churchill and Restall played out the final few overs as Whitchurch posted a commendable 184 for 9. Plympton?s reply got off to a checked start. Stokes and Tamblin bowled tightly, conceding just 16 runs off the first 12 overs. Stokes took 2 for 32, while Tamblin dismissed the dangerous Chapman for 23. Behind in the game, Plympton had to re-build. Gregory (25) and Hefford batted for 20 overs for the fourth wicket, before Gregory offered a return catch to Jackson (2 for 25). Heatley soon burst back in to the game, taking three quick wickets, as Plympton?s thoughts changed from victory to holding out for a draw. With Hefford (67no) in commanding form they did hold out, closing on 157 for 8. Whitchurch took 14 points from this winning draw and this week entertain Ipplepen in the final game of the season.
