AMAZING architecture will be stimulating the mind of Okehampton youngsters next week at a hands-on workshop as part of the Architecture Week.
The Build It! workshop takes place at Okehampton Primary School next Tuesday.
Children will start with just a single piece of dowel and an elastic band, but the workshops will culminate in the design and construction of a giant tetrahedron, a huge five-metre dome ? a cell like a fly?s eye!
The lively workshop aims to develop co-operative learning, team-building and problem solving skills as well as learning about building design and architectural shapes found in our towns and cities.
Workshop leader Adrian Wills from Building Experiences said: ?Each child starts with a stick but by the end of the day the whole class has, together, created a 5 metre high structure that they can all sit underneath!
He said the main theme of the workshop is collaboration.
?The children start making structures as individuals, then join small groups and finally come together to make something that they would be unable to make on their own.?
There are two workshops being held at Okehampton Primary School during the day. Booking is essential. A small number of spaces are still available for primary age students from other schools in Devon if they would like to take part.
