THERE are only two parking meters in the long, busy Bedford Car Park. This was the subject of much irritation last Saturday to an elderly car owner who cannot be dismissed as a grumpy old man. All the spaces were taken and this driver said he had cruised around twice before finding a space. Then he could not find a parking meter. When he was told that there is only one at each end of the long car park he said the parking authority is unhelpful in not having two more, midway and that all four should have large location signs above car roof level. He drew attention to an increasing problem. As the number of cars on the roads is increasing, last year, the press reports, well over a million new cars were registered. It is not a situation that should be allowed to continue in the busy market and tourist town of Tavistock. Graham Kirkpatrick Tavistock
