A ROYAL Navy commander from Bridestowe is among a group of four cyclists who are undertaking a marathon ride to do their bit for the Help for Heroes campaign.

Commander Gavin MacDougall, who lives in the village, and three RN colleagues from the Maritime Warfare Centre at HMS Collingwood in Fareham Hampshire, are taking part in a John O'Groats to Lands End sponsored bike ride.

They will be cycling 1,000 miles in 11 days.

Yesterday they were expected to be arriving in Bridestowe, via Okehampton.

The White Hart Inn in Bridestowe is holding monthly pub quizzes in support of the riders and this morning (Thursday) they will be popping into Bridestowe Primary School.
