Devon & Exeter League Premier Division St Martin?s 2 Okehampton Argyle 0 OKEHAMPTON will be disappointed to come away from St Martin?s empty handed, after having more than their fair share of the play and certainly more shots on target over the 90 minutes. The St Martin?s keeper came out on top on at least four occasions when faced with a one to one situation, blocking shots from Paul Yip and Steve Williams a couple of times each half. St Martin?s took the lead about ten minutes before half-time with a fine individual goal from Chris Veale. The second half followed a similar pattern to the first, with Argyle pushing forward, looking for the equaliser. All their efforts seemed to be rewarded when, 15 minutes from time, after a sustained attack and goalmouth scramble, Mark Burdus somehow got the ball into the net. Unfortunately the referee spotted a handball offence and the goal was disallowed. Before Argyle could recoup, a quick free kick was taken by St Martin?s, ending with Kevin Pike scoring their second goal and securing the points for the home side. This defeat now puts Argyle one place off the bottom of the league, with only Feniton and possibly Pinhoe still within striking distance. This Saturday Argyle are at home to mid-table Exeter University, kick-off 3pm.
