TWO West Devon men are have taken on the daunting challenge of trekking along the Great Wall of China to raise money for a disabled children's charity.
Tavistock Round Tablers Mike Hooper and Colin Piper will walk the remote sections of the Wall next summer.
The two walkers are appealing for donations from local business to take part in the China Wall Challenge. They need to raise £2,500 each, raising £825 to cover travel costs with the remaining £1,675 going directly to Whizz-Kidz (The Movement for Non-Mobile Children).
Mike and Colin plan to walk some of the most remote sections of the Great Wall of China, in June 2002. A challenging and packed nine-day itinerary has been set up, which in addition to trekking parts of the Great Wall includes following village trails to traditional communities in the Hebei province.
A China Wall Challenge bank account has already been set up, any donations can be made in the form of cheques or cash which can be sent to Mike Hooper, Fernside, Crease Lane, Tavistock, Devon, PL19 8EW.
