A PRE-school that has been running in Okehampton for more than 30 years has closed due to financial constraints.

In September 2014, not-for-profit community interest company Community Links took over the running of Rainbow Pre-School to save it from closure.

Community Links has tried very hard over the last year to secure Rainbow Pre-School’s future. The incredibly challenging operating environment currently facing the childcare sector is a constant pressure on the viability of pre-schools and the finances now require the company to close the setting, in an effort to limit any negative effect on the rest of the company.

The company is keen to minimise the effect on children and families and is working with Devon County Council and local providers to find places for younger children from June. To ensure a smooth transition to school, Rainbow will remain open until the end of term for children who are starting school in September.

Mary Lovell from Community Links said: ‘This has been an incredibly difficult decision. It has arisen after much discussion, deliberation and thought. Community Links would like to take this opportunity to thank all our staff, parents and the local community for their support.’
