A DECISION to withdraw West Devon Borough Council’s outreach service from Okehampton has been ‘put on hold’ until September.
Last week, the borough council hub committee voted by five to four to withdraw the one day a week face-to-face service at the Ockment Centre in Okehampton. The service, originally two days a week, was reduced to just Wednesdays at the start of April.
It replaced the permanent office WDBC had in the town in St James Street, which closed in January 2018.
But on Tuesday it was announced that the matter would be ‘put on hold’ and referred to the council’s overview and scrutiny committee.
Cllr Lois Samuel, deputy leader of West Devon Borough Council, said: ‘Although hub approved the recommendation to withdraw the outreach service there is a call in period, where members of overview and scrutiny committee can ask for a decision to be put on hold and referred to overview and scrutiny committee.’
