OKEHAMPTON Tennis Club has been recognised as the best ‘community venue in Devon’ by the Lawn Tennis Association.

At the 2016 awards ceremony, held in Exeter, Okehampton beat off competition from clubs in North Devon and Plymouth, and will now represent the county in the South West regional awards.

‘The award is recognition of our aim to get more people playing tennis,’ said Paul Love, Okehampton Tennis Club chairman.

‘Our Saturday morning junior sessions remain extremely popular, and in the past year we have introduced initiatives to get adults to return to tennis or try it for the first time.

‘Thanks to all who nominated us for the award, and for the continued support of OCRA and the town council in promoting tennis Okehampton.’

‘The club continues to widen opportunities tennis to local people. The club has recently engaged an LTA coach to deliver the Oke ‘All Stars’ programme. atartng in April 2016.’

In addition, the Club will be running several open days in the spring and summer, and new members are always welcome.’
