Sidbury 0
Okehampton Argyle seconds 3
OKEHAMPTON second team travelled to Exmouth to play the Express Cup final against Sidbury.
Argyle's midfield took control of the game with Martin Taylor in the centre winning most of the 50-50 balls and with Rob Clarke and Ricky Wooldridge working hard along side.
It wasn't long before they got their reward with Dan Pengelly putting the finishing touches from a flick by Darren Prouse, hitting the ball on the edge of the box to score a dipping shot into the far corner.
Although the game was not one sided, with Graham Soby, Aron Ditchburn and Mark Hampson at the back, Sidburys attack could not find any way through.
As the half drew to a close Argyle's Paul Yipp and Chris Holland made penetrating runs down the flanks and Okehampton came close on two occasions with good efforts just wide.
With seconds left of the half Sidbury conceded yet another corner and Wooldridge wipped in a great cross that Soby rose high above everyone to head home a second Argyle goal to go in at half time 2-0 up.
Sidbury started the second half pumped up but the game became a bit scrappy, however, when Argyle introduced Shane Monnox and Dan Leahy Okehampton began to tear holes in the Sidbury defence and Monnox in particular with electric pace had a couple of good chances but shot just wide.
With Sidbury becoming more and more reckless the referee was left with no alternative but to send a Sidbury player off for violent conduct and Okehampton began to open up more holes in the Sidbury defence.
Okehampton were then awarded a free kick 30 yards out and Ditchburn duly scored the third Argyle goal.
Okehampton then introduced Tom Hall for the final 10 minutes and ran down the clock to finish more than worthy Cup winners.
With the two unused Okehampton subs Neil Clift and Paul Prouse and assistant manager Danny Maddax running on to celebrate with their team mates the celebrations could then take full swing and with the huge support that had travelled to Exmouth and made lots of noise through out, the celebrations went on long after the game.
• Argyle man of the match Graham Soby.
