Devon FA Women's League
Rolle Rockets 2
Okehampton Argyle Ladies 7
OKEHAMPTON showed their fighting spirit when they twice came from behind to walk out easy winners. Due to key players being unavailable some had to play in unfamiliar positions and this more than anything lead to the two goals that were conceded.
Lynda Cann scored Okehampton's first goal, to bring the score to 1-1, with a 25-yard shot that dipped under the bar giving the keeper no chance.
Rolle Rockets took the lead again with a shot that went in at the far post but again Okehampton came back, Tanya Casley scoring from just inside the penalty area.
The first half was a struggle for Okehampton with players playing out of position but going in at half-time with the score level gave a chance to change things and the visitors started to take control.
An injury to Allana Partridge meant an early change and soon after Okehampton took the lead for the first time ever in a league or cup match when Lisa White scored with a deft shot. On the hour Tanya scored her second of the game with another long range shot then ten minutes later Rewie blasted a shot past the keeper into the corner of the net to make it 5-2.
Following a good move down the left wing involving Jessica, Michelle and Tanya, a cross was swung over and Lisa was on hand to score from the clearance. Tanya rounded off the match with her third goal of the game, again, a long range shot.
The commitment shown by all the players was second to none.
This was Okehampton's first league win of the season and it follows on the back of some good performances in recent weeks, where the team have proved that with a little application they can survive with the established sides in the league.
Next league fixture home against Rolle Rockets on Sunday February 6. Players to meet at clubhouse at 1pm kick-off 2.30pm.
