Okehampton Carnival is going to be a glow in the dark affair this year, with entries now open.
The theme at this year’s carnival on Saturday, October 17 is ‘glow’ as the carnival goes back to the 1980s and 90s.
Everyone is invited to wave or wear something glowing.
The carnival organisers are now inviting entries for both the evening procession and for the shop and business window decorating competition.
Entry forms, containing more details, and the window competition voting forms are available from Donalds Menswear in the centre of Okehampton.
A spokesperson said: “Anyone can enter the carnival, either on their own, as a family or with a group of friends, and have some fun. There are tableaux and walking classes to enter in the evening, a trade class to promote your business, a wheelbarrow class to promote local clubs, groups and organisations and a comic class for those with a sense of humour!”
The procession starts at 7.15pm, leaving from Mill Road for its tour of the town.
Everyone assembles beforehand in Mill Road from the waterwheel at the bottom of Station Road, in St James Street, Park Row, the bottom half of Station Road and Kempley Road.
The procession heads off at 7:15pm, with the local fire engine leading the procession down George Street, along Fore Street, up East Street, on to Crediton Road, along Limehayes Road, down Exeter Road, down East Street, along Fore Street again and back up George Street.
The carnival spokesperson added: “Please be aware there will be a road closure in place between approximately 6.30pm and 9pm. We don't want to hold you up for long but hold-ups are inevitable - so sit tight and enjoy the show as it passes by! Help us to make this year's carnival safe and successful by following the instructions of marshals at our road closure points.”
