OKEHAMPTON children were taken on a magical journey last week as they were plucked from West Devon and plunged into deepest Africa. Last week, as part of a series of activities organised by Okehampton's Children's Centre, children were treated to an 'African Experience' in Okehampton's Charter Hall. This involved African music, story telling and, of course, the joyful banging of drums. The event was one of many organised by the Children's Centre throughout the half-term week. Some of the other highlights included music and movement sessions at Parklands leisure centre and different activity sessions at the Museum of Dartmoor Life. Further activity days will be running on Fridays between 1.30pm and 3pm at the museum on February 29, March 14 and March 28. There will also be a free course for parents of children aged up to 5, funded by the Children's Centre, on Thursday March 6 and Tuesday March 11. The course will be run by the Citizens' Advice Bureau and cover subjects such as money management, dealing with bills and information about tax credits. The course, running between 10am and 1pm, will be held at the Ockment Centre with a crèche and buffet lunch provided. The Children's Centre can be contacted on 01837 658621.
