THE 'Go for It' series of tournaments invites six water polo teams to compete in a round robin of mini tournaments, with each team hosting one tournament.
The series has three teams representing Devon (Okehampton, Barnstaple and Devonport) and three teams representing Cornwall (Newquay, Truro and Penzance) and this is the first year that Okehampton has been invited to join the series. To date Okehampton have competed in two tournaments with limited success against stronger, more experienced teams, but on Sunday, June 6, it is the turn of Oke to play hosts.
David Bowles of the Okehampton Water Polo Club said: 'We are hoping that 'home' advantage will help and would encourage anybody interested in watching water polo to come along to Parklands Leisure Centre and cheer for the home team.
'The mini tournament starts at 5pm and runs through to a 9pm finish with some competitive matches promised, especially the Okehampton versus Truro derby.'
Anyone interested in playing Water Polo is welcome to watch for a while, to give them a good sense of the fun involved in a such 'different' sport.
The following Sunday (June 13) there will be a session at Parklands pool for anyone would would like to come and try it out. The session will start at 6pm for juniors and from 6.30 for youths/adults.
As long as you are confident in the water and can manage without goggles please come along and give it a go. The club members are a friendly bunch with all levels of skill and experience. For more details e-mail [email protected]">[email protected]
