THE sun was shining for the first match of the season last week for Okehampon U7s (pictured above), against Tavistock. There was a good turn out with 10 youngsters taking part for Okehampton, enthusiastically supported by friends and family. Okehampton was first to score with a try from Daniel Turney but Tavistock soon replied. The match continued this way, with Okehampton taking the lead each time and Tavistock returning a corresponding try. The game finished 8 tries apiece with good efforts by all involved, especially Daniel Turney, who scored 7 of the Okehampton tries. THE second game of the reason for Okehampton U7s saw them travelling to the home of the Cornish All Blacks to play Launceston. Okehampton took the lead with a try from Ben Wharton, which was followed by a try from Launceston. Good team passing and lovely runs resulted in further tries for Okehampton by Henry McMullen and Daniel Turney. The U7s showed real commitment and determination after half time, keeping Launceston at bay. Imogen Ogborne saved an attempt by Launceston to level the score by some well timed tagging. The involvement from all the players was fundamental to the win and real promise was displayed from this newly formed team. Final score ? Okehampton four tries, Launceston three tries.
