Ordulph Taverners v Launceston

WINNING the toss Ordulph elected to put Launceston in to bat first. On a slow wicket and in overcast conditions Launceston made a bright start with Baker and Scott putting on 43 for the first wicket.

What happened next could not have been envisaged. A bowling change brought Rice and Reed to the attack with devastating results. In a 10-over spell they ripped through the Launceston batting order with Reed taking 6 wickets for 12 runs and Rice taking 4 wickets for 16.

This remarkable spell of bowling was backed up with a good fielding display by the Ordulph with sharp catches taken by Folley, Hodges, Piper and Crowl.

Chasing the modest score of 68, Ordulph found runs hard to come by against the sharp bowling of Scott and Diebner with the wicket of Watling falling in the fifth over.

Statton and Coad, now at the crease, dug in and rode the storm, slowly but surely knocking off the runs required. Coad with 31 and Statton with 15 was enough to see the Ordulph home to a 9-wicket victory.

This was the first league match for the Ordulph Taverners, having entered the Tamar League for the fist time, and represented the first taste of league cricket for six of the team. On this showing the prospects of holding their own in the league look bright.
