Oakwood 5
South Zeal Utd 2
AFTER a good win the previous week Zeal returned to form on Saturday and suffered a disappointing defeat at the hands of a good Oakwood side.
For the first 20 minutes Zeal held their own with Garry Smith and Roger White competing well against Okewood's two excellent midfielders. The defence, marshalled by Reg Wonnacott, was never in any real trouble.
Oakwood won a corner on the left which was swung into the Zeal goal area. Adam Cann made contact with the ball but only succeeded in knocking it onto an Oakwood player and it ended up in the Zeal net.
Zeal could have gone in level at half-time but Tom Reilly narrowly missed the far post when good approach play put him through.
Oakwood turned round a goal up but Zeal were still in the game until ten minutes into the second half when Shaun Hiscock was adjudged to have brought down an Oakwood forward in the penalty area.
Zeal fought back and created several chances before Hiscock finished well from close in to narrow the margin to a single goal. Zeal pushed for the equaliser and paid the penalty as Oakwood hit them on the break twice to go 4-1 up.
Zeal then got a goal back when Phil Tyler hit the bar from a free kick and Redd Cann followed up to head home. Oakwood got their fifth just before the end.
This week away to Woodbury, kick-off 3pm.
