P & D Combination Premier

Tavistock 1

Vospers Oak Villa 2

WITH no Carlsberg fixture Pete Gibson Snr drew on the services of Andy Meeds, Graeme Kirkup, Steve Shaw and Craig Hodge for the starting line-up.

It was an even first half with good scoring chances. Hodge, Kirkup and Steve Nichol all saw their efforts fail before the Lambs' best chance fell to James Yates after 20 minutes. But as he went clear he was taken out by the keeper just outside the area and from the resultant free kick Hodge blasted over.

Vospers cleared off the line when Yates got to the byline to cut a ball back on the half-hour and Meeds had to be on his toes to come rushing out to smother a shot just prior to the interval.

Vospers took the lead after 55 minutes in fortunate circumstances. There looked to be little danger when 16-year-old Paul Rapson sent in a shot from 30 yards that went straight at Meeds. It should have been a comfortable save but it slipped from his grasp and went embarrassingly into the net.

Six minutes later the Lambs were fortunate to draw level. It looked like a foul on a defender but play continued for Adam Brimacombe to send in a cross for Hodge to side tap home. Brimacombe became provider six minutes later to put Yates away but his shot hit the bar and fell back into the keeper's arms.

Meeds came to the rescue with 15 minutes remaining, saving on a one-on-one situation and five minutes later the visitors got the winner.

The Lambs lost the ball in midfield and a defensive mix-up allowed Shaun Cragg to get in a header that hit a post and despite Meeds scooping it out, club linesman Andy Fitzsimmons signalled to the referee that the ball had crossed the goal-line.

Despite the added experience of first team players it was a below par performance from the Lambs who did not take their chances.
