AN OKEHAMPTON family received an unexpected Christmas present when they were reunited with an elderly member of their extended family. Pensioner Jim Reddington was living in sheltered accommodation in Manchester. After suffering various difficulties, he was admitted to a hospital, eight miles east of the city. While in hospital Mr Reddington had all his money and possessions stolen. His bank accounts were emptied and even his last pair of trousers were taken. Police are investigating the theft. His daughter-in-law, Lynne Robson, lives in Okehampton, and was growing increasingly concerned for Mr Reddington's well being. She wanted him to be brought closer to his family as soon as possible. She said: 'I was already aware of Aalen House, the nursing home in Okehampton, and the care it provides as I know some of the staff and residents there. I felt the home would be the perfect answer. 'Jan Hazell, the nurse manager, offered me sound advice and liaised with Social Services and the hospital on my behalf to ensure my father-in-law was admitted to Aalen House with minimal disruption and, more importantly, in time for Christmas. 'It's fantastic to have the family back together and I cannot thank the staff at Aalen House enough for their help. Jim has settled in extremely well.' Jan Hazell added: 'We were all shocked by the ordeal that Jim has had to go through and felt that we had to help out. 'He has a lovely character and is so happy to be here with us, he certainly settled in well and is popular with everyone at the home. 'We are delighted that we were able to help this family reunion.'
