THE Grade II listed 16th century manor house at Burdon Grange, Highampton ? the former home of young offenders rehabilitation charity C-FAR ? has been sold to a company which operates nursing homes. Edward Symmons acting on behalf of Richard J Smith and Co Insolvency Practictioners, have sold the property to investment company Orchard Properties, which operates a number of nursing homes within Devon. The property comprises a 16th century manor house with approximately 15,000 sq ft gross internal area, set in 18 acres of landscaped grounds and facing south towards the northern extremes of Dartmoor. Andrew Orchard, of Orchard Properties, said: ?We are very pleased to have secured this property and we are currently working up proposals for its future use.? Giles Frampton, the liquidator said: ?There was considerable interest in the local market for this property, from hotels to holistic centres and nursing homes. Former occupier C-FAR adolescent rehabilitation centre was an important employer in the area.? Burdon Grange was formerly a nursing home, before C-FAR purchased the site from owner Maurice Thomas three years ago. C-FAR, which provided a rehabilitation programme for persistent young male offenders, was forced into voluntary liquidation earlier this year, and the building placed on the market valued at £950,000.
