ROADSHOWS celebrating National Compost Week were hailed a success by the many visitors who attended the events, which were held in Tavistock and Okehampton recently.
Experts, including Nicky Scott, a local author and composting guru, were on hand to answer all sorts of questions about home composting, and a variety of compost bins were on display and also available for purchase.
Damp weather in Tavistock did not put people off, and more than 130 visitors tapped into the expert advice and practical information on offer.
Two lucky residents both won 200-litre compost bins in a topical competition run during the roadshows. Sarah Miller, from South Zeal, and Wendy Wills from Tavistock are now proud owners of the large-capacity bins, given by the borough council.
The roadshows were aimed at encouraging people to start composting from home to reduce the amount of organic waste that ends up in landfill sites. With 17 bins sold at the events people are obviously keen to take up the challenge.
Compost bins are available from the council offices at both Kilworthy Park in Tavistock and St James' Street, Okehampton, priced from £12.
