IT was ?one over the eight? for Tavistock Sir Francis Drake Bowling Club skip Norman Paramor when in the course of Wednesday?s mixed triples away game at Hatherleigh his opposition scored a rare maximum nine-shot victory on the ninth end of their triples game. Norman got his revenge when his squad fought back to end their game as 20-19 winners. Tavistock lost the match (70-99) after seeing Normans winning rink as their only success. Skips? results were: Colin Tremaine(17-19), Ron Cooper(16-18), Ernie Piper(10-15) and Der Saunders(7-28). Monday saw the men?s Evening League team journey to Plymouth for a game against a strong North Down squad, and return home, having lost(68-98), with only skip Mike Allen and his squad ending the evening as winners(24-18). Local neighbours Bere Alston were the men?s opponents for Thursday?s Evening League away match. The game ended as a 103-79 victory for the Tavistock travellers after each team won two of the four rinks played. Skip Malcolm Bloomer led his squad to a 26-23 victory and skip Mike Allen and his team won(38-10). Losing skips were Clive Jago(19-24) and Norman Paramor(20-22). The ladies? section played three matches during the week and won them all. Monday?s home match against Victoria ended as a 37-28 victory for Tavistock, after skip Sue Silcox won(22-13) and skip Hazel Lovell?s contest ended as a 15-15 draw. Tuesday saw the ladies travel to face Saltash and return home having won 40-34, after skip Betty Browse won 29-12 and skip Sue Silcox lost (11-22). Friday?s away match at Buckfastleigh ended in a 45-37 victory for the Tavistock ladies with skip Sue Silcox leading her team to a 22-13 victory and skip Hazel Lovell and her crew fighting out a hard fought 15-15 draw. The week ended with Sunday?s trip to Wadebridge for a mixed triples match which Tavistock lost(84-98) after winning only two of the six rinks played. Winning skips were Ernie Piper(23-9) and Vic Stacey(17-15).
