NOMINATIONS are now being requested for the next prestigious CATS awards evening in February.

The evening is hosted in honour of young people within the community of Callington who are recognised for the positive difference they have made to their community as a result of volunteering their time for a range of different organisations and projects.

More than 170 young people from Callington and Saltash last year were presented with CATS awards (Community Action Awarded Through Sport) by five sporting stars — one of whom was Olympic gold medallist Ed Coode.

The aim of the CATS scheme is to promote, encourage, recognise and award positive community action by rewarding the young people with sports-based awards. There are five levels within the award scheme and these are based on the level of commitment, responsibility and participation time shown by the young volunteer.

The CATS presentation evening rewards young people who have been nominated by both schools and local community groups for their contribution in volunteering in after school and community-based projects, clubs and local organisations.

Previous nominations have come from Callington Community College, Callington Police, Saltash and Callington youth projects, local sports clubs, Livewire and a variety of other local organisations.
