Calstock Rowing Club has continued to improve its standing in both flashboat and gig regatta in the last three weeks.  The club attended three events, at the start of the month, with the gig going to Cattewater on Saturday, and then Rock on Sunday. The club's Flashboats also attended the Penryn event.  After Roseland, where the club's Men's A crew won its heat, and finished a creditable 13th, the gig crews continued to make progress at Cattewater. The men's A finished eighth, and the ladies A ninth. The following day at Rock, the men's A finished eighth out of a large field of 20, followed by a creditable sixth out of 24 for the men's B. Ladies A and B finished ninth out of 18, and 19th out of 24 respectively. Vets and mixed crews also turned out at Rock, giving a large presence from the club at the event. The Flashboats continue to bring excitement to older and younger rowers alike. For those unaware, these boats are rowed competively by ages from under 14 to ages where the adults involved do not want to go public with the figure! Many younger gig rowers start out in Flashboats. The techniques learned, and experience gained gives younger rowers a good start when moving on to gig rowing. This was demonstrated at Looe, when an U21 crew was entered. The crew finished brilliantly in second place. The men's A did a superb job in finishing ninth from 15, the ladies A 14th out of 18, and the ladies B 18th out of 18. Apart from the World Pilot Gig Championships in the Isles of Scilly in early May, the CPGA run three events known as Tribute events throughout the season where clubs win points towards a league system, which decides a championship. The first of these was at Falmouth on June 14. The men's A crew were again in great form, and were placed 17th out of 34. The crew will also move up to heat two for the next event, as a result of this great performance. Ladies A finished 32nd out of 34. l Calstock Rowing Club is a friendly, social and active club, with members from age 10, (younger members need to be in school year six or above), up to over 60.
