TAVISTOCK's Molly Owen Centre is set to receive a Christmas boost shortly — thanks to the generosity of a seasonal business bonanza.

Nigel Nelson is doing a roaring trade in Christmas trees, which he is selling outside the town's Safeway supermarket under a concession agreed with the store.

He has now agreed to donate £1 from every tree he sells between Monday December 15 and Christmas Eve to the Molly Owen Centre.

Mr Nelson said: 'It's part of the Christmas spirit, it's about putting something back into the community.

'We are doing good business at Safeway and I thought it would be nice to do something for the Molly Owen Centre. They are a well known facility in Tavistock, they have a social fund and I thought it would be a nice thing to do for them.'

Mr Nelson said his donation to the Molly Owen Centre was part of a 'win, win situation' — he said the Christmas trees were selling fast and it was good to do something positive for a worthy cause as a result of the good business.

'I'm sure we will be selling close to 500 Christmas trees between now and Christmas Eve — we will also have collecting pots down there too.'

Patrick McLoughlin, unit manager at the Molly Owen Centre, said: 'This is a fantastic gesture.

'We are looking to purchase a new spa bath for the centre — the one we've currently got we've had for a long time and we are having problems with it, so we are really grateful to Mr Nelson — it's brilliant.'

Mr McLoughlin said the spa was very beneficial for the students at the centre, either to help those with mobility problems or as a relaxation aid.
