THE first meeting of a newly formed branch of the Mothers? Union was held recently at Meldon Village Hall.

The branch draws its members from the area covered by the Northmoor team of churches and is therefore known as the Northmoor branch.

The Mothers? Union has more than three million members in 74 countries of the world and has UN consultative status.

In this country, it is involved in supporting family life by running parenting groups, drugs awareness and media awareness initiatives and providing holidays for families under stress. Worldwide, it is involved in campaigning on issues such as parental rights, international debt relief and child poverty.

The new branch will meet every third Wednesday at Meldon Village Hall at 2pm. The meetings start with a short service followed by a speaker ending with a cup of tea and a chat, but aims to be finished in time for parents to collect children from school.
