THE Mayor of West Devon put on her wellies and rolled-up her sleeves to help Redrow begin work on bringing new homes to Tavistock. Construction has started on preparing the new roundabout on the A386, which will serve Redrow?s new development that will be known as Tiddy Brook Meadows. Mark Harding, land director for Redrow Homes (West Country) ltd, said: ?We were delighted to welcome the Mayor of West Devon, Cllr Jayne Hill, to officially mark the start to the infrastructure works of our new development, Tiddy Brook Meadows, in Tavistock. ?This is a landmark venture for Redrow in the West Country and we?re very excited about helping to meet the increasing need for new homes and affordable housing as part of the strategic extension of Tavistock,? said Mr Harding. ?It?s a beautiful market town and we plan to sensitively extend this flourishing community. He said the venture would also bring further benefits to the existing community including a safer road link to Anderton Lane, traffic calming measures to the entrance of Tavistock and contributions to the national cycleway network. There would also be the provision of new bus services, he said. The new development will include 231 new homes ranging from two-bedroom apartments through to four-bedroom detached houses. The homes have been designed to reflect Tavistock?s existing town architecture with a mix of terraced, link detached and detached properties. The site is just over 17 acres and three acres will be retained to provide public open space with an extensive landscaping programme to reflect the semi-rural location. The majority of the Devon Bank hedgerows and mature trees will also be preserved. The land has been allocated for residential development for a number of years and Redrow will submit a reserved matters planning application by the end of the month. The award winning home builder then hopes to begin construction of the new homes this summer with the first occupations planned for Christmas, subject to planning. This is only the third development by Exeter-based Redrow Homes (West Country) Ltd in the local area but the home builder has a 30-year track record and is one of the UK?s top 10 house builders. Redrow Homes? closest other development, Stourscombe Vale, is currently being created in Launceston.
