WEST Devon Homes? latest development of 14 affordable homes for rent was officially opened on September 13 by West Devon mayor Ken Williams. This new development, which is now home to more than 50 residents, is situated within the well established residential area of Monksmead in Tavistock. The site was the last parcel of undeveloped land owned by West Devon Borough Council in the area and was acquired by West Devon Homes for development in March 2005. The contract for design and building with W Cooper & Son (Plymouth) Limited commenced in April 2005 and completed on schedule on June 30 this summer. Chief Executive of West Devon Homes, Jean Peters, said: ?This development is a particular milestone for the Company as it includes our 1500th home and we are particularly pleased to have been able to provide a home within the project which has been purpose built for wheelchair access. ?West Devon Homes is very grateful to both West Devon Borough Council and the Housing Corporation for jointly providing total grant subsidy of £902,000 towards the total cost of the development of approximately £1.6m.? Mayor of West Devon Ken Williams said: ?West Devon Borough Council and West Devon Homes have taken another well designed step towards meeting the affordable housing needs of the area here in Monksmead.
