FOOD, beverage and grocery logistics specialist Baylis Distribution has announced two major appointments to its board of directors. The company ? with a major depot on North Road, Okehampton ? has appointed Thomas van Mourik as managing director and Phil Shaw as business development director. Both new appointees have taken a significant shareholding in the business. Thomas van Mourik joins from Culina Logistics where, as group chief executive, he was responsible for building the company from scratch into a £60m business in just twelve years. Culina now claims to be the UK?s leading chilled third party logistics provider and has a food and drink customer portfolio that includes Danone, Tropicana, Alpro and Kraft as well as parent company Müller. In addition, Thomas managed the Italian and German Culina businesses. Phil Shaw joins from consultants Davies & Robson Logistics, where he spent nine years as a director, advising and supporting companies such as Rank Hovis, Bayer, Novar and Sun Microsystems. Previous to this, Phil held supply chain positions in J Sainsbury plc and TNT. ?Both Thomas and Phil are proven supply chain winners. They will play an important role at both strategic and tactical levels in developing our operations and in enhancing the value we offer, both to our customers and to retailers,? says Baylis? chairman Roy Vickers. ?Their experience, expertise, vision and drive will enable us to enhance our competitive edge and to further improve on the high quality services we provide for all our customers.? l Pictured above: Thomas van Mourik (left) and Phil Shaw.
