A NEW creative space for printmaking has opened its doors in Tavistock.
Situated at Kingdon House on Pym Street, the print room is a creative space for aspiring local artists and guests, continuing the heritage of Kingdon House as a printing works.
Community artist Andy Cairns, from West Devon Art Workshops, is leading the project. He said: ‘We aim to make printmaking an affordable and accessible creative activity for our local community. This project has been made possible by the generous donation of an etching press by a local artist who wishes to remain anonymous.
‘In the coming weeks, the new members will hopefully form their own printing group and take over the running of the facility.’
The project builds on the success of Art for All classes run by West Devon Art Workshops at Kingdon House over the past three years, which have engaged new people in printmaking.
Kingdon House was formerly the home of Tavistock Printing Company. It had recently undergone external repairs and is in the process of the developing the internal space as a community facility for all.
