Okehampton Golf Club enjoyed most of the glorious sunshine and Saturday's fourball was fully subscribed. Scoring was excellent with Neil Penfold and John Flavin winning the first division with a superb 47 points. Second were Barry Coaker and Kevin Cornwall with 45 and third were Peter and Mike Denning with 43. Division two was won by Rob Simpson and Mike Charlesworth who had 46 pts, second were Gary Carey and John Donovan with 41, on countback from Jane and David Warren, also on 41. On Wednesday the ladies played a fourball better ball Stableford which incorporated the lady veterans match qualifier. The scoring was close, with the winners, Penny Deakin and Mary Keir, making 39 points and having the best back nine, from Kay King and Kath Mansell, who won the qualifier and will represent Okehampton in the knockout rounds. Pam Jarman and Lin Atkinson were third with 37. On Sunday the ladies played the first round of the 'Mail on Sunday' knockout competition. The first match of the 2008 season which was played at home against Fingle Glen was close with Lynn Hazelton, first out, winning on the 18th. Cherry James, second out won 6 and 4, Mary Keir third out lost on the 16th. This meant Okehampton had to win one of the two remaining matches. Jane Warren had a real battle but unfortunately lost on the 18th but team captain Penny Deakin won her match on the 15th, giving Okehampton a 3-2 win.
