A WEST Devon resident has this week taken on the role of the national treasurer for UKIP. Accountant Hugh Williams, who lives at Crapstone, has been a member of the party since 2003. Mr Williams said his tenure as national treasurer would, however, be likely to be fairly short. 'I have been deputy treasurer for the last three and-a-half years. Our treasurer has resigned as he's getting older, and no new treasurer has been formally appointed yet, so I am stepping in for the interim,' said Mr Williams. 'I'm not the ideal person — really you need someone who's mega rich and lives in London, so I fail on both counts!' Mr Williams has stood in local elections for UKIP eight times previously.
