SHOPPERS at Okehampton's farmers' market this month will be serenaded as they shop. Violinist Paul Roberts and flautist Tia Wilkins will be turning next Saturday's event on May 20 into a 'Musical Market'. There will be tables and chairs for shoppers to enjoy a cup of coffee from one of the local cafes and relax as they enjoy the music. Paul Roberts had unlikely beginnings as a violinist — being born in Sierra Leone and contracting polio at the age of 11 months. After being adopted into a missionary's family, he came to England and was inspired to learn the violin after hearing one played in a restaurant. He is now self employed as a musician and supported by the Prince's Trust. Tia Wilkins will be accompanying his remarkably sensitive playing. As always, the farmers' market will offer a unique opportunity to try before you buy, with lots of free tasters, a chance to meet food producers, and freshly cooked sausages and burgers on sale. The market takes place every third Saturday of the month from 9am – 1.30pm.
