THE hugely infectious Zimbabwean band Chimanimani will be appearing at the Ordulph Arms, Tavistock on Saturday. The musicians, some now based in West Devon, provide the pure vibes of African music that will encourage audiences of all ages to get up and dance. Formed in 1985 Chimanimani ? named after a sacred mountain in Zimbabwe ? has recorded two albums which have catapulted them into an international world tour. They have also played at the Glastonbury Festival and Womad as well as gaining an enthusiastic following from BBC World Service listeners. Mixing fast-paced rhythms and rapid fire guitar with slow, highly danceable sounds and excellent harmonies gives Chimanimani an extra dimension which sets them apart from other outfits playing today. The exuberant band with their irresitable music are at the Ordulph Arms, Tavistock on Saturday from 8pm. Tickets at the door are £5, and £3 for under 16s.
