CENTRAL Devon MP Mel Stride visited Okehampton recently to show his support for National Dementia Awareness Week. Mr Stride met with dementia support worker Alan Morley to learn more about the Alzheimer's Society and the help it provides for people suffering with dementia and their families. The awareness week ran from May 18 to May 24. Mr Morley said: 'Part of this awareness week is making sure that dementia care is firmly on the Government's radar and meeting with MPs to update them with our work is a good way of doing this. 'It was good to speak with Mel and press him on the importance of investing in dementia research and supporting the families and carers of people living with dementia.' Mr Stride said: 'It was good to meet Alan and discuss the Society's five-year plan to improve the delivery of care to those living with dementia. 'This was a really useful meeting and reinforces the fact that there is help out there for those with dementia and for their carers. 'More needs to be done but help is available. I encourage anyone who wants more information to get in touch with the Alzheimer's Society on 0300 222 11 22.'
