A TAVISTOCK man will take on a high altitude climb to the lost city of the Incas in Peru this spring, to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Relief. Lawrence Harris, a legal adviser, will take on the demanding trek across steep and remote mountain trails to Machu Pucchu in May. His journey will take him through breathtaking scenery, from jungle-cloaked peaks and Inca temples to snow-capped mountains. Lawrence said: ?Apart from trekking in the Sahara, this will be one of the most challenging things I have ever done. ?There will be lots of steep climbs and hard treks and I?ll also have to contend with the effects of being at high altitude.? Lawrence said the fact he was raising money for such a good cause would help him cope with the difficulties he was expecting to face on the trail. ?I?m taking part in the challenge because Macmillan nurses cared for my late mother-in-law, and I feel they deserve every penny ? I want to raise as much as I can for them.? One in three people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime and more than a million people are currently living with the condition. Macmillan nurses provide expert care and practical and emotional support to sufferers and their families. Money raised by Lawrence through his latest challenge will be used to fund specialist Macmillan nurses and doctors, build cancer care centres and give financial help to those who need it most. Lawrence, who was part of a team which raised £150,000 for disabled children and adults through a Sahara trek three years ago, has to raise at least £2,900 in sponsorship to take part in the Peruvian challenge. The trek takes place between May 12 and 21 ? anyone who would like to sponsor Lawrence Harris can contact him on 07885 419017.
