Tavistock College U16s 1

Ridgeway U16s 5

TAVISTOCK College U16 footballers put in a great performance against the national finalists Ridgeway this week, only to finally lose 5-1.

They were 3-0 down at half time, with all of the goals coming from set pieces. Tavistock were not without their chances but unfortunately they were not able to convert them.

The second half saw some inspirational performances from the captain, Andy Hunter, Brad Monk, Matt White and Matt McClung.

Sam Turner had a great drive from 20 yards out, which helped to put Tavistock back in the game, but then Ridgeway managed to slot in another two goals, despite gallant efforts from the whole team. Player of the match was Brad Monk

Stoke Hill U16s 2

Okehampton Argyle U16s 5

STOKE Hill had the first chance and were unlucky not to score when their shot went wide.

For the next 15 minutes Argyle battled well and had some good chances. However, Stoke Hill were the first to score from a throw in. Dennis had a lovely shot on goal only to see it tipped over the top by Stoke's keeper.

Argyle could not get the equaliser and they remained 1-0 down at half time.

The visitors started the second half well with Ausden knocking the ball onto Dennis who scored. Dennis scored Argyle's second from a good through ball from Boother. Stoke Hill rallied and quickly made it 2-2 but Argyle upped their play and Ausden got on the score sheet with a well taken goal.

Argyle were not content to sit back and Dennis scored his hat-trick to make it 2-4.

Ausden and Dennis worked well together to set Boother up to score Argyle's fifth with less than a minute to go.

Tavistock Thistles 16s 1

Laira United U16s 2

After an even opening to this match Laira took the lead some 15 minutes into the game.  With this boost, the visitors shaded the remainder of the half.

In the second period new signing Ben Farrar, making his debut, beat two opponents before crossing for Glenn Tremblett to score from ten yards.  Thistles were the better team in the second half, but were frustrated as three times they got the ball in the Laira net only for each goal to be denied by the flag of the Laira assistant referee.

Two of the goals should have stood, as the ball had been played by a Laira player, and these mistakes proved costly as Laira scored a second to inflict an undeserved defeat on Thistles. This was the team's first loss of the season having won their opening four matches.

This Saturday second placed Thistles visit top of the table Ivybridge and on Sunday travel to Exmouth for a Devon cup fixture.

SAS U14 3

Okehampton Argyle U14 3

ARGYLE made a great start to their match at Chivenor. They played some good football with brilliant passing and were unfortunate to find themselves 1-0 down at half time.

Argyle had plenty of possession and were unlucky to miss several attempts at goal. Their dogged determination paid off with superb footwork from Packer, scoring a cracking goal from 25 yards.

The rest of the game saw a fantastic team effort with some great saves from Richards and a brilliant goal-line clearance from Roberts.

Stanbury took Argyle into the lead with a controlled strike from outside the area. SAS soon equalized and within minutes had scored their third goal.

Argyle levelled the game with a final goal with minutes to spare as Mellor-Bond lobbed the ball over the keeper. Argyle were disappointed not to win after putting in so much effort but were pleased to come away with a point.

Tavistock Town U14s 2

Railway Beacon U14s 4

BOTH teams made a tentative start as they tried to get used to the conditions. Tavistock started to take control and put Beacon on the back foot and after wasting two simple chances, the home side took the lead when Hamill attacked an excellent Tugwell corner.

At the start of the second half  Tavistock gifted Beacon a goal. With missed chances to clear the ball, the defenders were under  pressure from the Beacon attackers and an unfortunately sliced clearance from a defender ended up in his own goal.

Tavistock responded well, and soon went back into the lead when team captain, Milligan, strode forward and unleashed a ferocious 30 yard drive into the net.

Beacon went on to the attack with Tavistock finding the constant long balls and huge goal kicks a problem and it was from a goal kick that Beacon got their equaliser. With three defenders having enough time to clear the ball and failing, the ball fell to May, who sqeezed the ball past the Tavistock.

Okehampton Argyle Under 13s 2

Sidbury U13s 2

ARGYLE struggled to find their good form of last week in this tense match against Sidbury.

The visitors were first to find the net from a free kick which was disallowed for offside. They did however make their next free kick count with a power shot which bounced in off the bar. Argyle had chances to score but were denied by the excellent Sidbury keeper until just before half time when a great through ball by Ben Bickle set Ross Voaden up to draw level.

A nail biting second half saw both teams vying for that winning goal. It was Argyle that broke the deadlock when a super strike from defender Liam Alford lobbed the keeper. The lead did not last for long as Sidbury quick to respond shot past the Argyle keeper to bring the score back level and finish the game 2-2 all. Player of the match was Liam Alford.

Tregorrick Park YFC 7

Tavistock Thistles 0

THISTLES had to travel to St Austell with an under strength team to face top of the league Tregorrick Park.

The last minute withdrawal of Thistles' goalkeeper through injury compounded the teams problems, Charlie Charlton stepped in to fill the position. Thistles started slowly, struggled to get their passing game going and were eventually punished with several goals. Thistles tried to respond but found themselves four down at half time.

For the first ten minutes of the second half Thistles kept Tregorrick pinned back into their own half and were unlucky not to score. Then with only a single substitute available, two of the midfield players needed to be replaced through injuries. The remainder of the match was played with effectively ten Thistles players on the pitch. Man of the match Jordan Seward made some dangerous attacking runs but Thistles could not convert them into goals.

The final score flattered the home team and Thistles showed a lot of character despite all their setbacks.

Tavistock Thistles U11s 2

Morley Rangers U11s 7

DESPITE the score line Thistles continue to improve, matching their opponents for most of the game. Thistles started brightly with some good play from Edward Tucker and James Murphy forcing an early corner.  However as the half progressed Thistles goalkeeper, Sean Donnoly, was pressed into action, making several great saves before he was finally beaten.  Despite losing two more goals, Thistles battled on until half time.

Thistles were caught napping early in the second half and Morley Rangers made it 4-0. Undeterred, Thistles kept their heads up and a great pass from Daniel Drummond led to a great run from Kyle Clark that was halted by a foul. Hayden Greening scored from the resulting free kick. The team continued to press, enabling 'Man of the Match' Dan Drummond to run into the penalty area and fire under the keeper, 4-2 game on!!!

Thistles continued to attack with Tei Darastu, Billy McNicol, Jason Holland and Will Trembath looking steady at the back, however a great cross from Morley and a fine finish left Thistles feeling aggrieved after all their hard work.

There were good performances from Mariah Calvert, Dominic Walker and Matthew Chambers.
