Okehampton 1st 3 Broadclyst 1 OKEHAMPTON completed their league campaign with another good performance and proved too good for Broadclyst. On ten minutes James Williams surged forward from his defensive duties. Somehow he kept the ball in play with an overhead kick to the back post, finding Adam Mortimore to head home Argyle?s 100th goal of the league season. Argyle looked comfortable until a rare Broadclyst attack ended in Okehampton?s keeper Daniel Malcolm fumbling the ball and the Broadclyst striker tapping in an easy chance. After the interval Argyle brought on young Ricky Drew and then Ricky Wooldridge. Both teenagers played well. Argyle went back into the lead when Sandercock found Steve Kinsey on the edge of the Broadclyst area. Kinsey?s shot could only be palmed away by the keeper into the path of Steve Williams who finished well. Broadclyst had their best spell of the game but could not beat Malcolm in the Argyle goal, making up for his earlier mistake. Okehampton put the game out of reach when Chris Wills sent in a superb cross for Mathew Mortimore to power home a very good header. Okehampton Cup semi final Okehampton 1st 1 Heavitree 3 HEAVITREE proved too good for Argyle on this occasion, being much sharper in possession, and really stretched Argyle. Heavitree opened the scoring on 11 minutes when their right winger got in behind Argyle?s defence to stroke the ball home. Okehampton enjoyed good periods of possession but found it difficult to break down a Heavitree defence. Young Mathew Mortimore had an outstanding game for Argyle, breaking out of defence and setting up play for the hard working Ed Squire. Heavitree added a second goal when a long ball played over the top of the Argyle defence allowed their striker to strike home from close range. At the start of the second half Paul Yip got down the wing and nearly pulled a goal back for Okehampton. This seemed to inspire Argyle, and they penned Heavitree in their own half for long periods. Heavitree?s third goal came from a well delivered corner, but Okehampton refused to be beaten and everyone battled hard, finally being rewarded with a penalty calmly stroked home by Adam Mortimore. Okehampton Cup final, Sunday May 14, kick-off 3pm, Chagford v Heavitree.
